THURSDAY THIRTEEN #14 . . . 13 THINGS I'D LIKE TO SEE LESS OF IN 2008 . . .

1) BOOTLEG DVDS (As an artist, this pratice truly offends me. I don't buy, watch or listen to bootleg products when I can help it. Now, if Shay-Shay and 'Nem have got it running on full blast down at the hair salon, there's not much I can do about it. But I'm not trying to cut into another artist's profits when and if I can help it.)

2) IGNORANT A$$ MOVIES (particularly those aimed at the African American audience. If these went straight to bootleg, I'd be more than happy.)

3) BRITNEY SPEARS' BARE COOCHIE AND/OR NAKED A$$ (Apparently, "Oops, I did it again" as in left the durn house without undies, is this poor child's freaking theme song. I can only hope she got a year's supply of clean drawers for Christmas.)

4) SYMBOLS OF RACIAL HATRED (All y'all out there tying nooses, putting on blackface, dressing up like stereotypes and calling it big fun need to grow the hell up and get a life.)

5) BOOKS WITH WORDS LIKE PIMP, PLAYA, HO', THUG, TRICK, THONG OR GANGSTA IN THE TITLE (Sorry, no offense intended, really. Were I on lockdown, trying to work the stroll or the pole, I just might find this kind of mess entertaining, but I'm not and I don't.)

6) ANNA NICOLE STORIES (Dang, the poor woman and her son are dead and buried. Can't we just let them rest in peace already?)

7) REALITY SHOWS (Some of this mess is about as entertaining as watching a fat kid pick his nose and at the rate we're going, I'm pretty sure something along those lines will hit the networks soon.)

8) CHEATING A$$ ATHLETES, COACHES AND SPORTS OFFICIALS

9) LYING A$$ POLITICIANS

10) ANOREXIC (NO A$$) STARLETS

11) MURDER

12) POVERTY

13) ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION COMMERCIALS (Why it's acceptable to run 15 different, loud, lengthy (no pun intended) and incredibly annoying erectile dysfunction commercials in prime time, but not a single condom ad is truly beyond me.)

So what are you hoping to see less of in 2008? Is there anything on my list you strongly agree or disagree with?

I would like to see less pregnant teenagers with sitcoms, and less celebrity DUI arrest photos.

I agree 100% with your list, so long as #5 is limited to titles and not text.

Hey Lori,

I posted somewhere else about the bootlegging of DVD's. "The Great Debaters" came in #11 at the box office only because people were watching it in their living rooms on Christmas day, instead of going to the theater. Gone are the days in which the bootleg was made by someone sitting in the theater with a hand held camcorder. The quality is just as good as DVD's purchased from Target. This lets me know that these movies are coming from somewhere within the industry. I will get off of my soap box now. Happy TT.

Although I have watched them on occasion, I don't buy bootleg DVDs. I personally like having the official product.

"Reality" TV is a contradiction in terms... we know that a lot of this crap is scripted. Because it is cheap to produce and often gets big ratings, "reality" TV unfortunately won't be going away.

What I would like to see less of is veteran recording artists doing albums that consist of remakes of classic tunes. It's too bad that artists like Boyz II Men, Michael McDonald, and Rod Stewart have to take this route in order to survive in the marketplace.

Excellent list. I can't help thinking all that pimp talk makes it easy for so many girls to leave home without their undies....Enough, already! We need to put our clothes on, feed people, and finish off poverty. God bless.

I hate to disillusion you but I don't think you'll get your wish re #7. Reality TV is relatively cheap, and with the writers on strike, they will have to fill the schedules with something.

As for #13, if they showed condom ads, some people might buy condoms and use them in order to have sex purely for fun (shock horror!!!)

This is a great list! I don't want to see any more of any of these. I also don't want to see any more spam comments on my blog.

Yes, lets have less of all those things. It would make life a whole lot nicer. Less lazy people with no work ethic would be good too.

The herpes commercials would be something I would LOVE to see less of. And the ED commercials, too. I LOLd at that one. Great TT! :)

Love your TT, Lori! I hope to see less of these too! I really think that we lack originality in entertainment these days and so because we (as in most of society, unfortunately) can be entertained by the most ridiculous junk around, we have reality tv... and we have remake films out of old tv shows. *sigh*

I'd like to see less of movie remakes of tv shows as well. :) Happy New Year!

I am not African American, but I agree on the dumb movies that make them look dumb and ignorant. That is why I am so pleased they came out with "The Great Debaters," They need more movies like this one!

I'd like to see less (or even none of, now there's a concept) of all of those, too. Also, I'd like to see fewer stories about crime and mayhem on the local and national news. I'd much rather focus on the good that's happening in my community or the world. I don't care to know every detail about which wannabe gangstas are committing armed robbery at which corner store or hitting which old folks over the heads to steal $14.
Exiting soapbox...
Happy TT and Happy 2008.

Re #5: I make an exception for the very funny Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging by Louise Rennison.

Happy new year and happy TT.

Great list! I especially agree with #7. If I could ban those my personal tv viewing list, I would.

I really enjoyed your list and your strong opinions! I would like to see less plastic bags and more concern for the earth and the quality of our lives on it.
Happy New Year!!
My TT will be up soon :)
