Last week, I caught a bit of a PBS program about the artist/quilter/writer Faith Ringgold. During the course of a discussion about the stereotyping of African American women, Ringold had the following to say . . .
"I don't want to argue about it, I just want to retell the story."
Hmm, I SO love the energy, spirit and simplicity of the statement, I think I'll adopt it as my own new motto (smile).

I like it too! Faith Ringgold and her work are an inspiration. I do a day of summer camp about her in my "Fantastic Female Artists" program, and the girls really love her story and her quilts.
Hey Michelle,
Yes, Ms. Ringgold is an interesting woman and artist. I knew about her work, but not much about her journey. What an inspiration!
That's an excellent quote. I'll have to see if or when PBS will be showing that program again.
Malcolm, thanks for stopping by. I caught the PBS program early in the afternoon, so who knows when it will pop up in the schedule again. But it's interesting, if you enjoy "artsy" stuff.
Hey Lori,
That statement is exactly where I am. Instead spending time debating people, and using up all that energy with the internet, online video tech, etc. being more accesable to the masses it is now possible for the common person to retell the story. I 100% agree with that. I am going to have to start using that quote.
