THURSDAY THIRTEEN #18 . . . 13 FAVORITE "PRINCE" SONGS . . .

Hey, you knew this post was coming, didn't you? (smile) I'm a Prince fan from WAY BACK. The following are some of my favorites, but by no means are the top 13 on my list. Matter of fact, I could have easily made a list of 20. But ranking them is much too difficult an undertaking. As it was, I left off favorites like Pop Life, 17 Days, Raspberry Beret, If I Was Your Girlfriend and 1999. But let me quit complaining and get to the list.

1) Another Lonely Christmas (b-side of I Would Die For You/1984)

2) Anotherloverholenyohead (Parade / 1984)

3) Baby I'm A Star (Purple Rain / 1984)

4) Erotic City (b-side of Let's Go Crazy / 1984)

5) Girls & Boys (Parade / 1986)

6) Head (Dirty Mind / 1980)

7) I Would Die 4 U (Purple Rain / 1984)

8) Lady Cab Driver (1999 / 1982)

9) Let's Go Crazy (Purple Rain / 1984)

10) Nothing Compares 2 U (1992)

11) Purple Rain (Purple Rain / 1984)

12) She's Always In My Hair (b-side of Raspberry Beret / 1985)

13) Thieves In The Temple (Graffiti Bridge / 1990)

Prince is absolutely one of the best artist to ever pick up a microphone. My favorite all time Prince song is "Let's Work". I also like "International Lover", "Sign of the Times" and "U Got The Look" and "I Wanna Be Your Lover" to name a few. Great post!

Excellent post. I hope nobody comments by saying you left "such and such" off the list. Like you said, your list could easily have been 20 songs... that's the badness of Prince. It's too hard for me to choose a favorite Prince tune. Having said that, here are some of my faves:

Private Joy
Cream
I Wanna Be Your Lover
Uptown
Kiss

I wouldn't know the artist now known as Prince if I heard him - I'm that out of it!

SJR
The Pink Flamingo

Never been a Prince fan, although I saw him do something last year emulating Hendrix.
His guitar work was quite good.

I have never heard of any of these but some of the titles look intriguing.

If I thought really hard I could probably name three Prince songs but never thirteen. Happy TT.

Love it -
as soon as I read the title in comments Purple Rain started playing in my head.

It's hard to believe those hits are even B-sides.

Have you ever heard of the CD "Prince is Dead"? I bought it in Europe (Italy) in 1994 during my Air Force days when all I ever watched was MTV Europe (VERY different from the regualar MTV). It had some nice jams on it that weren't too well known in the United States. Unfortunately, I lost the CD in a warehouse fire. If I recall, it cost double the value of a CD then. You might be able to buy it online.

Correction: That Prince CD was called "Come" not "Prince is Dead." http://www.amazon.com/Come-Prince/dp/B000002MT0/ref=m_art_pr_12

Hey Lisa,

My favorites have pretty much been covered except Money Don't Matter Tonight. That song was on heavy rotation when I was broke in college.

Nice list... I'm listening to "Raspberry Beret" as I type this. I've always had a thing for "Pop Life" and I'm glad you left the loathsome "Kiss" off the list ;-)
